When it comes to transporting over-dimensional or heavy-lift cargo—whether it's equipment bound for Alberta oil fields or turbine components for an Iowa wind farm—transportation and logistics demands are infinitely greater because they are unique to each situation.
The complexity of moving unwieldy cargo as quickly and economically as possible requires collaborative partnership, attention to detail, and constant communication across the supply chain. From pre-planning through execution, In Break bulk cargo shipping shippers and their supply chain partners need to consider several factors to ensure project cargo moves without a hitch: Customs and regulations. Taxes and duties vary from country to country, as do inspection requirements and documentation. Conducting local market research determines the financial implications of procuring particular components in different countries. Moving project cargo on shared roads often raises public safety and environmental concerns.
Break bulk cargo is general cargo non containerized and usually shipped as individual pieces because of its over dimensional size and weight for example farm machinery, mining equipment, windmills, transformers , oil field equipment, ore, timber, steel, yachts etc.
Due to reduction of costs and minimizing the possibility of theft/ damage much of the worlds freight is now containerized meaning it fits into ISO standard containers but because of size/weight restrictions there is still a lot of cargo (such as oversized and heavyweight equipment) which has to be shipped break bulk. Break bulk freight transportation still has a major role to play in the international trade industry as countries expand infrastructure and require these large cargos to for the development of things such as wind farms, power plants, highways etc.
Many specialist break bulk vessels come fitted with heavy lift cranes which can manage the heaviest of cargo safely and quicker than dockside cranes, this can speed up the process of loading/unloading and reduce costs for the shipments.

Special equipment for special cargo
Your special cargo will need dedicated equipment to carry it in a comfortable, safe and secure environment. SEAKARGO offers 20' and 40' flatracks, and 20' and 40' open top containers.
Allowing cargo to be loaded from the top, open top containers are particularly suitable for bulky or unusual cargo such as machinery. They are fitted with a PVC tarpaulin cover and attachable bows with cable sealing devices. The container doors can be removed to make the stuffing of cargo more convenient. Manufactured from steel, open top containers come in 20 ft and 40 ft sizes.
40 Open Top High Cube
Open Top High Cubes (OQ) are vertically extended versions of the conventional 40-foot Open Top High Cube containers to accept cargo heights reaching a maximum of 2,653 millimeters. These open top containers are cost efficient and can carry a wider range of cargo, ideal for tall machinery.
Flatracks | 40 FL High Cube and Super Rack
Flatracks are especially suited to heavy loads or cargo that needs loading from the top or sides, such as pipes and machinery. SEAKARGO offers collapsible and non-collapsible containers with or without walls. Manufactured from steel, flatrack containers come in 20 ft and 40 ft sizes.
40 FL High Cube and Super Rack
Flatrack High Cubes (FQ) are vertically extended versions of the conventional 40-foot Flatracks to accept cargo heights reaching a maximum of 2,260 millimeters. This not only expands the range of cargo acceptance but can also offer a more cost effective solution to customers if their cargo is beyond the height limit that standard Flatracks can accommodate.
Super Racks (SR) are more sophisticated versions the 40-foot Flatracks that provide added flexibility to loading special cargo through the use of the adjustable height features that allow for a much wider variety of dimensional options to position the cargo, ranging from helicopters to drilling machinery. Apart from expanding the range of cargo acceptance, Super Racks can also offer cost efficiency when handling shipments of multiple cargo loads that require stacking.
